touching base on differences

I'm going to type up some things that to some people, may be and probably are, deemed 1) disgusting 2) unhygienic 3) "un-lady like"

These things are, not shaving yr arm pits, not wearing deodorant and not washing yr hair every other day.
I haven't worn deodorant in about 2 months I'll go ahead and say. It started off with me not being able to find my deodorant, then it went into well, I went one day without it, why not go another, to completely disregarding it. Most people say "You didn't really need it until you used it", and I feel that falls true in this space. The first few weeks after the conscious decision to no longer wear it, I smelled a bit of an odor similar to onions, faintly. Over the weeks, it softly faded into what is now just "my odor". I have baking soda as a back up, in case I have a day where I just feel like I don't want to smell anything, but that's about it. I ended on pretty okay terms with Arm & Hammer's deodorant, but I won't go back. The only thing I guess that was difficult to get used to was not smelling like a toxic flower like I had for so long, since I was at least 12. That's what? 11 years?

Next on the list, not shaving yr arm pits. I am happily sporting a "Hairy Pits Club" patch on my pack. I've never gotten questioned about it, so I guess that's that. I shave my legs about once a month, so a package of razors normally last me quite awhile given that I take care of them and don't leave them laying around all willy nilly. I'm not sure what else to say about this subject because it gets a lot of press online in the "alt" world already. Though, people will fight till the death saying that it is "unhygienic" and "unlady like." What's lady like any way? If hair grows there, why is it unhygienic to keep it there?

Lastly, not washing yr hair every other day. I take baths quite regularly because they relax me, and with the job I work with, I need all the relaxation I can get. I enjoy just sitting in there, reading a book, or just closing my eyes and relaxing. Not having a shower head has aided a great deal in me not washing my hair every time I take a bath -- I wash my hair in the kitchen sink, and it's a lot more difficult sometimes. Yr hair has natural oils that are meant to be there and washing yr hair every single day, isn't healthy for it. I know I'm THE last person that needs to be saying things like this, since I quite recently dyed my hair using a chemical dye box. Thankfully it's my last! I've given the rest of my boxed dyes away! ANY WAY, be natural, be whatever, be comfortable!

On to different things. It hasn't been that much of a busy week besides working and things.
We went to the Rainbow Co-Op in Jackson today. They also have a computer co-op which was pretty neat. It was our first time going and it was the first of many times!
haul!
purple potatoes, tempeh, peanut butter newman o's, tvp, figs(donna's), peach(donna's), apple(donna's), plums(donna's), freshly baked apple bread, freshly baked wheat bread, miso soup mix, biodegrable baking cups, plant sticks, and chandrika sandal soap <--josh has loved this soap since we found it in St. Cloud but has been unable to find it since we moved here, and we went in the little shop outside of Rainbow, and they had it there! oh and there's a pro-choice pin in the picture too! "We won't go back! Keep abortion safe and legal" The store outside of Rainbow sold all sorts of things and we stayed in there for a good 30 minutes sorting through the pins, bumper stickers, posters and things like that. They also sell composting bins that circulate air on their own as well as rain water bins. They also have a free lending library that they are still cataloging but will be open in the next few weeks!

They also have issues of Jackson Free Press and other magazines for free when yr leaving the building, so we picked up a variety of them as well as a free bumper sticker.
We also hit up Donna's 6 Produce for some peaches, plums, apples, homemade ice cream & figs on the way back.

I also made the decision to go back with the animal rescue group. I'm not sure if I mentioned that in my last post or not. It's already proving to be fruitful & exciting! One of the gals in the group has pears and figs growing and offered for people to go and get some. We have a meeting at her home on Thursday so I think I'm going to trade her some lemon marmalade for some pears!

i ate a lot of yummy food today

hearty breakfast
for breakfast I woke up early, washed my hair and put some turkey sausage, eggs & potatoes in a pan and let it cook. i had it with a glass of lemonade & some pita bread! that was yummy.
for lunch i had some home made blueberry jam on toast, and then for dinner i made potato leek soup. I'm bringing the rest of my artichoke & some potato leek soup for lunch tomorrow at work.
ARTICHOKE!
for an early midnight snack i ate an artichoke, rosemary toasted pita bread w/ a garlicky butter dip! I purchased some agave nectar because it looked yummy and I'd like to try it over some oatmeal or something!

Last night I tried to make beer bread but it didn't turn out. I think I forgot to put baking powder in it? I don't know!
failed attempt

Yesterday here in America it was the 4th of July. We attempted to go see fireworks but failed because my anxiety was getting the best of me so we didn't stay.

Staying positive while I'm sick! (or trying to)

Dinner
After this post that I read the other night on Home Sweet Home, I instantly jonesed for a pita pizza!
Today I went back to the doctor. The infection had spread to my other ear, I thought(and I was right) but I wanted to double check. He prescribed me another medication(ciprofil --which is also used when you've been exposed to anthrax!) He also tested me for diabetes and my numbers were high, but he said that I would be okay as long as I just kept on the track I was on(eating "properly", walking, ballet, etc etc)
After work, I decided to take some pictures of my plants progress & water them, as well as go around back and check on this really odd tree/plant thing that's nestled by our bedroom window.

A plant/tree thing in our backyard

While back there, I happened upon something GREAT & SPECTACULAR!
WATER ON MY SHOES

WATER HOSE ATTACHMENT
WE HAVE A WATER HOSE ATTACHMENT. This is GREAT news because I've been wanting to get a very small pool for Lulu & I to hang out in on my day's off.

so bright

Fernelope is doing great!
Fernelope!

This is our back yard, well, sort of. It's a big field after the dip from our real back yard and nobody's ever in it so sometimes I let Lulu run around in it

Cucumbers & Tomatoes

I watched Scott Pilgrim VS The World the other night, we rented it from Lila Land Movie Box, it's sort of like the Red Box but a local guy does it and has one in the market that I used to work at. I thought that I was going to dream about it, I liked it a lot.
PS: We bought a water filter for our faucet in the kitchen a few nights ago, as well as some reusable water bottles that are BPA free, and we couldn't be happier! The water is just so much more delicious & we've been filling up our water bottles and putting them in the fridge every night for nice cold water in the morning! If you don't have a water filter and you don't like yr tap water, go get one! Ours has an option to where you can "turn on" the filter, and it goes for 100 gallons. I didn't want to use the filter for washing dishes or anything like that because that just seems like it's wasting filtering, and as much as the filters cost(12$ USD), we just can't do that! BUT, by getting this, and for how many times we've already filled up our reusable water bottles, it's already paid for itself!
I also found someone who collects aluminum cans so when we DO get packs of soda, I've been putting them in a paper bag(I need to really get a bin of sorts for them) and giving them to my pal who knows this person, and she passes it(or will, I haven't given them to her yet) to the person.

a series of events

Sunday I had a 6Am shift and since pretty much nobody comes in between 6Am and 8Am, I decided to whip out my yarn and crochet hook and finish up a hat I'd been working on.
pompom

This is going to be a long week, I think. We have kind of a lot to do but we're keeping it low key. Josh dropped me off at home after I got off of work and he's been back at the office since. I have some soup in the crock pot, dishes are done, macadamia nut & white chocolate chip cookies are baked, kitchen is clean and I've put some veggie and soup cans in a big bowl of hot water to soak the paper off so I can do something with them.
I really hope the soup is good. It's kind of a garbage soup I guess.
It's 2 cans of:

rinsed and drained, half a can of chicken broth, half a can of corn and 2 spoon fulls of flour to make it a bit thicker.
Cross yr fingers!

Here's a bonus picture of Lulu and her new toy, Mr Quackers JR.

I'm slowly but surely getting together everything that I need for the zine. I know it's been a super duper slow process and I have a million apologies for that but it's winter time and I'm always tired.

I've slowly been gathering items to send to Diandra of OhSweetie and I'm getting increasingly excited with each item that I pop in the box!
Beyond that, I haven't really been up to much besides trying to stay warm. Josh's boss made him take 2 vacation days since he has 5 left and they'll just be gone at the end of the year and he's taking 1 next week, so he stayed home today and cleaned up(thanks Josh!)and did some dishes(thanks for that too Josh!) while I went to work.
I went and did a tiny tiny bit of shopping today. I got these 2 books(for 50cents a pop!)
new girl books

and got 2 new pairs of socks
(the bottom 2, not the christmas themed ones)
socky wockies

and we ate dinner together before he went off to a meeting for work, where he is at now.
"GABBAGOL!"

Lulu is laying on the couch kind of on her pillow kind of not, but her head keeps slipping off the pillow and she'll jolt awake real quick and lay back on it. It's kind of really funny. It's like that kid in class who rests on their hand pretending to REALLY read the chapter but they're just falling asleep...
Okay, I felt bad for her so I fixed it. She smells like popcorn today and now she's giving me those "Awwwww Mom why'd you do that! I'm a sleepy puppy and didn't wanna be bothered!" look. :(

I looked on our TOKI DOKI calender this evening, just glancing at it, and saw this little knitting lamb on it! I got so excited about it that I felt sort of silly afterwards

SO cute!

This is our schedule so far for the near future

Speaking of the Honeybun, he's at the office late this evening so he texted me to say that I should just do "whatever" for dinner, but since it's not Mac N Cheese Friday, I opted for some Ramen to warm me up

I completely brain farted this weekend and forgot that a co-worker asked me to make her some pom poms for a sweater she was crocheting, after seeing the pom pom ornaments on my Christmas Tree scarf last week. So I hurried and got 2 done last night before I went to sleep and finished the other one while at work today.

And last but not least, here is our GALLANT GENTLEMAN GINGERBREAD, still growing. Day 2!

I made some last minute peanut butter cookies after we were done with dinner. A gal pal that I went to high school with was talking about how she used the recipe I had given her and that made me crave some super bad, so I went ahead and made them! Yum yum!

Friday Friday

Every other Friday, if I have the day off, Josh comes home for lunch and we go to Smokey Mtn BBQ and indulge in some of the most delicious potato salad I have ever had in my entire life.
Today, he brought some fresh oranges when he came to pick me up. They smell so delicious and they taste even more yummy!
fresh oranges!
I love living in a small area where people are always selling something delicious on the side of the road, right out of their vehicle sometimes! We have a man that lives down the road who sells sweet potatoes out of the back of his truck.
So after our tummies were absolutely to the breaking point of exploding, we went to the Never Ending Garage Sale(as I call it) and we scored another plush to put up on the plush wall, 2 SNES games and this beaut!
pink tea kettle
I put some water in it and let it boil and whistle, and Olive Oyl and Lulu went nuts..I felt a little bad but it was kind of comical. I hope everyone has a really great weekend! Mine is going to be work, then a Halloween thing(if Josh doesn't go before I get off of work tomorrow) at the VFW then a wedding and some grocery shopping between that somewhere!. At least for the Saturday part of my weekend! Tonight it's going to be a pumpkin beer, and maybe a movie by myself since Josh has to go to the football game and cover it!

Dinner Slump

For the past few weeks, I've been in a real dinner slump. We'd just eat sandwiches, frozen pizzas or simple spaghetti. I didn't feel like coming home and really doing much of anything.
Tonight for some reason, I felt like we deserved a big yummy meal. I made fried potatoes, drop biscuits, gravy and sausages. It was super yummy downed with some Sunny D and a movie!

The biscuits turned out really good. I was super proud of myself! I made the mistake of buying cheap gravy powder. While it turned out pretty decent with a nice sausagey taste, I didn't like the color or texture of it much. Some things are better if you spend a few more cents on them!
home made drop biscuits

I was also pretty stoked when the house was cold(when it got in the 90s today. Guuuuuh!) so I was cold and put on some pantie hose and my warm boots with my sleep shirt. I was excited to cook dinner in warm clothing, but with an oven on at 450F and 2 stove top burners going, it got warm quick.
dinner in pajamas

I'm slowly but surely getting through Grassroots by Jennifer Baumgardner and Amy Richards. It's pretty enlightening/inspiring. I'd like to get Girl Power: The Nineties Revolution in Music soon. Something is pulling at my heart strings for me to get Weetzie Bat but I haven't totally decided yet!
Powell's website is a really great service. I ordered Josh's birthday gift, Failure by Philip Schultz there a few weeks ago and received it pretty promptly. Xo!
